Rice History and Facts

Rice has been in our diet for a very long time. It have been cultured for five thousand years and is one of the first crop. With more than 7,000 varieties, rice became the staple food of more than half the world’s population. Most people have at least one meal of rice that they particularly like.

Asian countries produce about 90% of world production of rice and Asians eat 300 pounds of rice per person per year. Americans eat a little more than 21 pounds of rice per person each year, and 10 pounds of rice per person per year is average consumption of rice for french.

Despite its long history and popularity around the world, many people today are not confident about cooking rice by the fear of conflicting results. Rice is a good source of energy. Rice is an excellent source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates decompose to glucose, most of which is used as an energy source for exercise and as an important fuel for the brain.
