Philippine Airlines plane with more than 250 people, make a safe emergency landing in Manila on Saturday shortly after take-off on a domestic flight because of the suspicions smoke in the cockpit, an official said.
Airbus A340 aircraft flew for 10 minutes when the pilot declared an emergency and requested to land back in Manila said Eric Apolonio a Philippine’s Civil Aviation Authority.
The plane landed safely and there were no injuries among the 254 people on board, Apolonio said. After the passengers disembark, Manila airport fire began testing the aircraft.
It is not clear what went wrong with Flight PR 1857, which had 13 crew members and 241 passengers bound for the central province of Cebu, about an hour by plane from Manila.
Apolonio said the passengers were to be taken to the Cebu later in another plane.
