Firefox executive Mark Schmidt announced the change Monday in a social media post. He said the browser is blocking the platform due to security vulnerabilities.

Schmidt later said that while the software was blocked in the latest version of Firefox, Mozilla enable support for Flash by default to your browser when Adobe released a version that is not being actively exploited by known vulnerabilities. The company has previously blocked Flash, Java, and a range of other plugins and software when found to have security holes. Schmidt also noted that Firefox users may still choose to enable Flash in the setup menu if they want.

Adobe has scrambled to fix problems as they have become public, but larger web companies have gradually withdrawn support software in recent years.
