Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-17 Crashed in Ukraine-Russian Border

Kiev: Malaysia Airlines MH-17 was shot down by militants in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry official was quoted by Interfax – Ukraine news agency said.

Another source said, Boeing 777 routing Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, came to the nearby city of Donetsk, the pro-Russian rebel stronghold, Anton Gerashchenko said, adding that it was ground anti-aircraft missiles.

There are no further confirm the report, although Ukrainian officials said residents discovered the wreckage.

Malaysia Airlines said in its Twitter feed; it has lost its contact MH-17 flight from Amsterdam. “The last known location was in the airspace of Ukraine,” it said.

Gerashchenko was quoted as saying: “An airliner from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has just been shot down by the North’s air defense system …… 280 passengers and 15-crew members were killed.”


Interfax quoted another Ukrainian officials as saying that the plane disappeared from the radar when it was flying in meters (33,000 feet), a typical cruising altitude of the aircraft.

It came in Torez, nearly Shakhtersk, about 40 kilometers from the Russian border (25 miles). The area has been the scene of fighting between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian rebels.
