India celebrates the Teachers’ Day in September 05 in commemoration of the importance of the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a staunch believer in education and was one of the best known scholar diplomat, President of India and above all a teacher.
He believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country”.
When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president of India in 1962, he was approached by some of his students and friends and asked him to allow hold on 05 September, the day of his birthday. In response, Dr. Radhakrishna said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be a proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers’ Day”. Since then, the day has been observed as Teachers’ Day in India and this led to its origin.
Teachers’ Day ‘is an opportunity to invest quality time with their teachers and is the day to commemorate the teaching profession and all related to it. It is the day when students organize activities and cultural programs to honor and appreciate teachers, in order to focus on bringing teachers and students closer. Moreover, it is the day dedicated to highlight the hard work put up by the teacher throughout the year and is a day that is a complete tribute to teachers across India.
“A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
Since giving bouquets, greeting cards and gifts to their favorite teachers, some students also write wonderful poems and messages to their teachers on this day. But there are some students who come up with innovative ideas and ways to celebrate Teacher’s Day.
