Understanding Diamond Fluorescence

Diamond responds to incident light in three different ways. This allows some of the light to pass through itself; another part of it reflects and refracts the other part of the incident light in itself. This dispersion and refraction of light, is which makes the diamond shine.

When the path or length of the incident light is blocked or diverted, light does not appear in the game. Depending on the size and type of obstacles, it can give a dull and lifeless diamond. View of blockages caused by deficiencies of diamonds may be internal or external, or both.

External flaws caused on the diamond surface diamonds are called blemishes, while the internal surface of the diamond crystal faults is known as inclusions.
